Hi, I’m Drew!
Welcome to my website and portfolio.
I am a game designer, narrative designer, and video editor living in Washington, DC. I currently work as an Instructional Technologist at the George Washington University where I oversee the CREATE Digital Studio. CREATE is a space within the university’s Gelman Library where community members of all skill levels can come to learn about and create digital media. My primary goal as an Instructional Technologist is to promote digital storytelling throughout the campus. In this role, I have been expanding the presence of games, interactive media, videos, and podcasts through workshops and in-class instruction sessions.
Before joining GW, I studied at American University where I received a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Games and Interactive Media. My undergraduate background is in film studies and creative writing.
Influenced by my diverse educational background, my game design and game studies work primarily focus on the storytelling and instructive aspects of games. As of late, I have been interested in emergent storytelling and how players’ interactions with game systems can create engaging narratives. I am also passionate about expanding the positive influence of video games and making gaming spaces more inclusive.
As a video editor, I primarily focus on producing long-form and educational videos. I’m a naturally playful person, so I try to integrate humor into my videos when appropriate. I’m a strong believer in the persuasive potential of digital media and am always looking for opportunities to reach people with video content.
More personally, I’m a fan of science fiction stories and a big history nerd. I love role-playing, strategy, and management games, especially when I get to play them with others. Outside of making and playing games and editing videos, I enjoy watching movies, fishkeeping, reading, and hiking.
